you buy and sell wedding dresses online. Our niche within the market however is within the

This is why we focus on creating an upmarket experience through the design of our adverts,

to ultimately display your dress in the best possible manor that will achieve you a sale.

Why to not advertise on eBay and Facebook?

General selling platforms such as these are not ideal for presenting specialise items such as wedding dresses. Potential customers want to feel that buying a dress is a one off, very special purchase and not a second hand bargain, which most of these market place sites portray.

Popular bridal magazines also advise brides not to buy from such sites to avoid fraud and over sea sellers providing illegal designer replicas.

How much does an advert cost?

To place an advert on the site it costs either £25 (for the gold package) or £30 (for the

diamond package). Your advert that will then be listed on our site for a total of 12 months or until it is sold.

The differences between the Gold and Diamond packages are as follows.

Gold

  • 3 photographs
  • Standard listing on our site.

Diamond

  • 6 photographs.
  • Premium listing on our home page for 70 days

Although our Gold package will get your dress viewed, our more prestigious Diamond package

offers the following additional advantages.

  • Appearing first above gold listings in searches.
  • Showing on our Homepage – the first place that every user visits.

How to price a wedding dress

People can get back up to 50% of the original cost of their dress. However, it is entirely up to you to decided how much you think your dress is worth.

Points to consider when pricing your dress.

  • Designer
  • Age
  • Style
  • Is your dress new or used?
  • Is it dry-cleaned?
  • Is it’s damaged?
  • Has it been altered?

We also recommend that you look at other dress adverts on this site to see what they are being sold for.

How long will it take to achieve a sale?

There are many influencing factors that can determine how quickly you can achieve a sale.

  • The type of dress you have - is it popular?
  • The price - is your price realistic?
  • The content of your advert - have you marketed your dress correctly by providing

    quality photos and a comprehensive description that makes your dress desirable?

How will buyers contact me?

Buyers can contact you via email by clicking on to your advert and selecting “contact

seller”. This is why it is important that you provide a correct email address when setting up

your account. If you then wish to exchange telephone or mobile numbers via email you can do

this as well.

To update your profile

  • Log into your account.
  • Select the “my profile” link.
  • Edit your account.
  • Save changes.

What payment methods are accepted for an advert?

We use a secure online payment through PayPal which also accepts credit and debit cards.

Are there any fees or charges to pay after a sale?

You only pay The Wedding Dress Link a one off fee of either £25 (for the Gold package) or

£30 (for the Diamond package) for a 12month advert on our site.

When you sell your dress you keep all the proceeds. We do not ask for any further payment when a dress is sold.

Who pays for the postage or shipping of a dress?

It is usually the responsibility of the buyer to pay for the posting and shipping cost but

this can be discussed between you and your customer. Alternatively arrange to meet with the buyer

and exchange the dress for payment during the appointment to avoid such costs.

What are the costs for postage and shipping?

There are a number of different factors that can effect the cost of shipping a dress. For

example the...

  • Location/destination.
  • Size of the package.
  • Weight of the dress.
  • Delivery speed.

We would suggest you contact delivery services such as UPS, FedEx and TNT for quotes. Make

sure you ask for insurance that covers the cost of your dress and for deliveries that require

the signature of the customer.

How to pack a dress for shipping

  • Use a sturdy box that is the right size for the dress to avoid movement and fill any

    spaces with tissue or acid free paper.

  • When folding the dress make sure you place protective paper over embellishments or

    beading to protect it from damage.

  • Use a plastic cover to avoid the dress getting wet during transportation.
  • Place a delicate or fragile label on top of the box avoiding over seam closure in case

    opened by customs.

  • Put a duplicate label with your contact details such as phone number, postcode and email inside with the dress.

  • Select the “sell a dress” button.
  • Choose an advertisement package - either Gold or Diamond.
  • Create an account.
  • Upload the details of your dress.
  • Check out.

What type of photos should be used?

Our company’s aim is to display your dress in style and find you a customer.

This means quality is required and this particularly applies to the photographs you use.

  • Use professional photos from your wedding day.
  • Alternatively if you are a retailer we suggest using a mannequin and a good quality camera.

Tips:

Portrait photos are best – We do except landscape pictures however due to the nature of this site and the programming portrait pictures are always preferable.

Sizing of you photograph – Please use the standard sizing of 7X4 when ever possible and less than 5 Mega pixels.

Types and angles of your photos – Try and use photographs that display the full length of your dress as well as some close up shots showing detail such as beading and embellishments. Photographs that show your dress from different angles can also be useful.

No marking or dubbing – do not dub out your face or any others that may be displayed in your photos as doing this ruins the effect and presentation of your dress.

You must be the copyright holder – make sure you have the right to use the photos before displaying them on our site.

Do dresses need to be dry-cleaned?

We recommend that you dry clean your dress before placing it on our site, as this will ultimately increase your chances of achieving a sale. The sooner you organise getting your dress cleaned after your wedding day the better. We also suggest that once it’s dry cleaned that you keep it...

  • In acid free paper or a dress bag that will help preserve it.
  • Out of direct sun light to avoid the possibility of discolouring.

This will make your dress look as good as new and will help to get you to achieve a quick sale. Some dry cleaner can take up to 3-4 weeks.

Are there recommended dry cleaners?

Only certain dry cleaners deal with wedding dresses so make sure you choose some one that is experienced in cleaning wedding dresses. Such companies will usually have a pre set pricing for different styles of dresses.

What are the costs to dry-clean a dress?

Prices will vary from each business but on average most cleaners will charge from £60 - £100. Please not that some will determine the price however depending what you estimate your dress to be worth.

  • In acid free paper or a dress bag that will help preserve it.
  • Out of direct sun light to avoid the possibility of discolouring.

What happens if a completed listing isn’t appearing on the site?

Once your payment has been processed your advert should appear straightaway however in some cases please allow for up to 72 hours.

What are the Gold and the Diamond packages?

The differences between the Gold and Diamond packages are as follows.

Gold (cost £25 per advert)

  • 3 photographs
  • Standard listing on our site.

Diamond (cost £30 per advert)

  • 6 photographs.
  • Premium listing on our home page for 70 days

What is the Multi-sell option?

The multi sell option provides a discounted rate for the number of adverts you place on the site within one transaction they consist of either Multi Gold or Multi Diamond packages (these adverts cannot be mixed and must be either all Gold or all Diamond).

Multi Gold package

1 dress advert = £25
2 dress adverts = £20 each (save £10)
3+ dress adverts = £15 each (save £30)

Multi Diamond package

1 dress advert = £30
2 dress adverts = £25 each (save £10)
3+ dress adverts = £20 each (save £30)

How to get paid securely when selling?

We would firstly recommend that you make sure payments are received before you hand over or post your dress.

Meet the buyer – meet face to face to avoid scams.

Use PayPal or organise a direct deposit - if you are unable to meet the buyer organise a secure payment method such as Pay Pal.

As a seller do I have to let customers try my dress?

Our site allows you the control in what you feel comfortable in doing. Some individuals will feel it vital to try and view a dress before buying while others may feel happy to buy online without trying first.

Simply discuss with your enquires what you would like to do.

Do sellers have to offer a return policy?

You do not need to offer a return policy. The purchaser cannot return a dress once a payment has been made.

What are the common scams?

If you receive a cheque that is more than the asking price of your dress return it back to the sender and ask for the correct amount.

Or alternatively wait for the cheque to clear!!

This has not occurred on our site but there have been recent online scams particularly with high end priced items.

How to sell securely?

  1. Avoid sending money or cheques in the post. If you decide you want to arrange a payment transfer with the buyer we can suggest a service such as PayPal. Some other transfer services may well be populated with fraud merchants.
  2. Make sure your receive full payment before sending out items – this includes waiting for cheques to clear.
  3. Arrange an appointment with the buyer. When at all possible we suggest that you meet face to with the buyer so that they thoroughly view the dress before payment. Make sure you arrange for some one to accompany you when visiting or meeting a potential buyer in your home.
  4. Educate your self about current scams. Search online for common fraud schemes and be wary of over seas buyers.
  5. Use common sense. If something doesn’t seem right avoid the situation and ask for a second opinion from friends and family.

For the majority of situations these tips may seem extreme but it is always best to abide by them to promote safe buying.

Modifying or removing a listing

How to remove a listing?

  • Log into you account.
  • View your order page.
  • Select “view details” for the relevant order.
  • Select “mark as sold” to remove the advert from the site.

How to modify an advert?

  • Log into “my account”.
  • Reach the “Your orders” page.
  • Click “View details” for the relevant order you wish to change.
  • You will then reach the “Your orders details”.
  • Click “Edit Advert” link for the relevant order.
  • Alter your advert and then save.

You may update your items as often as you like.

When will an advert automatically expire?

You advert will automatically expire after 12 months and will be removed from the site.

How do I remove a listing?

  • Click “My account”.
  • Click “My orders” on the Your orders page.
  • Click “View details” next to the relevant advert you wish to edit.
  • Click “Mark as sold” link to remove your listing.

Once this process is completed your advert will be permanently removed from our site.

It may also appear in our sold section.

When does a listing expire?

Your listing will expire 12months from the date that it is placed on our site. When your dress is sold please log in to your account remove your listing to avoid other buyers continuing to contact you.

Making the best advert.

How do I get an advert viewed?

  • By selecting our Diamond package your advert will automatically be listed on our home page for a total of 70 days. The homepage is the prime place to display your advert, as this is the landing page for the website.
  • The diamond listings are also placed on a rotational system so you may not see your advert every time you view the home page.
  • The newest listings of either gold or diamond are displayed above older or previous listings.
  • If your listing is already live and it is no longer showing on the home page you can relist your advert for a repeat fee. It will then be displayed on the home page again.

What is relisting?

Even though your advert is displayed for a total of 12 months you can relist your dress whenever you wish, even before your 12 month listing has expired!

This means that you can remove your current listing and create a new-refreshed advert by purchasing another Gold or Diamond package. This will then make your advert appear before other listings on the site and will ultimately increase the chances of getting your dress seen by potential buyers.

To relist your dress you firstly need to remove your advert and create a new one.

To remove your listing:

  • Log into your account.
  • Go to the “My orders” page.
  • Select a dress you wish to relist by clicking “view details” of advert.
  • Mark as sold.

To create a new listing:

  • Select either the gold or diamond package.
  • Upload your dress details.
  • Pay for your relisted advert.
  • Wait for a maximum of 72 hours for your new listing to appear on our site.

How to use social media and forums to promote an advert

Here are some useful tips that you can use to promote your dress successfully.

  • Bridal and wedding forums - Place our website link in forums such as these to direct even more traffic to view your dress on our site.
  • Social media – Copy and paste your advert URL into your Twitter and Facebook posts. You may have contacts that may consider purchasing your dress when viewing it via the link to your prestigious Wedding Dress Link advert.
