I probably tried on over 30 dresses and was convinced I was going to go along the 'vintage', lace, backless lines where wedding dress shopping was concerned, but out of pure coincidence, I was trying on some dresses we had picked out in a bridal shop and my mum spotted this dress hanging on the back of the dressing room door.
The bridal shop assistant explained that another bride-to-be had specifically ordered the sample in from the manufacturer because it wasn't a 'typical' bridal dress so they don't normally stock that sample in store and if I wanted to try it, I had to do it then and there as it was going back the next day. And it really isn't a 'typical' dress. It's amazing. That feeling that you've heard about when you find 'the one'? I tried on so many beautiful dresses, but this truly was 'the one'. I was elated and my mum and sister actually jumped up and started cheering when the shop assistant pulled back the curtain. It all sounds so ridiculously cheesy, but it is a special dress, and it made me feel so special that I don't think I would have looked as happy, comfortable and relaxed in my wedding photos as I did had I worn any other dress.
Understandably, it probably isn't the dress for everyone, but if you're like me and you want something beautiful, classy but with a bit of a dramatic flare, this dress has got it. We had a 'festival' wedding (which was the best weekend of our lives bar none), hence the flower crown and colourful flags in the background, but this dress would look equally stunning in a more classic and formal setting.
So, here's the description:
An asymmetrical sweetheart strapless dress with a corseted body and buttons over the back zipper down to the end of the chapel length train.
Worn just once for the wedding ceremony and photographs only, this beautiful dress is in excellent condition. With mille-feuille layers of organza, the skirt moves with fluid-like grace as though walking on a cloud. This dress also offers stunning detail in the waist band and down the length of the train.
A bustle loop was fitted by a professional dress-maker, but other than that there have been no alterations to the original dress.
It was extremely flattering and comfortable, and I received countless compliments on the big day and as soon as photos started appearing on Facebook from those who weren't at the wedding. It really is a show-stopping dress with a difference and I shall be very sad to part with it, but I haven't the room to store it, and feel it's being completely and utterly wasted in its dress bag!
The Size 12 is true to size. After a 6 month wait from the designer, I bought this dress in Feb 2014 and it was worn on Sat 3rd May 2014.
Original Price £1875 from All About Eve, Chepstow (lovely staff). Can send copy of receipt with dress if wanted. Also, I had the ruffles steamed flat as I preferred it that way, but you can have them steamed so that they're even more floaty (as seen on the Justin Alexander website).
The dress has been professionally dry cleaned and I am happy to post by recorded delivery anywhere in the UK upon receipt of payment.
I look forward to making another bride-to-be feel the way I did one day!
